Fall 2024 COVID-19 and Respiratory Illness Information

As of July 2023, Illinois Tech does not require the COVID-19 vaccination for students, faculty, or staff. However, vaccinations and boosters will continue to be strongly recommended because they remain effective in protecting the campus community, and students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to stay up to date with vaccinations and boosters.

Illinois Tech remains mask-optional on campus. Consistent with CDC guidance on when to use a mask, the university may designate one or more areas on campus as “mask-required,” including, without limitation, classrooms, laboratories, or other instructional spaces, as well as sporting events and other activities and venues such as performances, productions, or social events.

Members of the Illinois Tech community should continue to monitor symptoms for COVID-19 and any other respiratory illnesses consistent with CDC symptom guidance. Individuals with symptoms of respiratory illness are encouraged to get tested for COVID-19. However, reports of positive test results are not required to be submitted to the university. It remains important for all individuals to stay at home if they feel unwell, and to isolate and mask according to CDC guidelines if they test positive for COVID-19 or any other respiratory illness. We ask everyone to be considerate of others and to respect their choices when it comes to the use of masks on campus.

Students who wish to request academic accommodations due to a positive test for COVID-19 or other respiratory illness, should submit an Excused Absence Form and include appropriate documentation. Questions regarding this process can be sent to the Dean of Students office at dos@hwanfei.com.

Faculty and staff who need guidance on accommodations or time off due to a positive test for COVID-19 or other respiratory illness can contact Human Resources at hr@hwanfei.com

Illinois Tech will continue to monitor publicly available COVID-19 and other respiratory illness data, as well as update requirements, in response to changes in conditions or changes of state, federal, or local policies.
